Introducing Little Luke

Luke Tyler Davies
May 4, 2016 - 6:23am - 7lbs 7oz - 20 inches

April 27 was your due date but that slowly came and passed. We were so excited  and couldn't wait for you to come out! Everyone kept asking " is he here yet?" But a week later you finally decided to arrive.

Daddy had school finals all week of your due date while we were waiting. It was a blessing you were late because he would have been stressed if you actually came on time. He decided to go back to work until you made your appearance. The weekend came and went with distractions and lots of walking. Tuesday I decided to clean the house one last time before you induction date, that way you could come to a sparkly clean home. I took a nap, read a book, did the dishes, vacuumed and took the trash out. About three in the afternoon I was cramping up. But these had happened before so I didn't worry. By the time Daddy came home about 5pm I knew something was different. So we ate dinner, cleaned up and waited it out. We even took a walk around the court. I didn't make it that far... By 10:30pm we decided to head to the hospital.

I felt I was well prepared and worked my way through contractions pretty well. Daddy decided that throwing out jokes was  a good way to relieve pain but laughing just hurt. But he was a great supporter! Luckily the hospital was only 5 minutes away. The same place mom works! When we arrived I waited for Dad at the front while he parked the car. I decided to walk up to the OB floor and of course started to contract when the elevator reached the second floor... Then I started to contract again when I reached the front desk to check in. Dad would help me when ever there was a contraction and it was a HUGE help. I feel so lucky to have him as a partner in this new experience.
Everyone that helped through the birth was amazing!!! What an awesome job they have and I couldn't have done it without them too! Once checked in they found that I was dilated to 6cm and fully effaced. Everything was looking good! Ready or not you were coming! :D

They wheeled us over to labor and delivery, room 10. The nurse checked me in and the anesthesiologist talked to us about the epidural. (I might add here that the epidural wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.) she was awesome! She walked us through the whole process and it was painless after that! By midnight I was 8cm dilated. Grandma jones, aunt Jessica, uncle Caden, grandma Annette, and Grandpa Jason were all there and so excited!!

They had me on a peanut ball to help progress my labor. Those are amazing! By 2am I was 10cm dilated and ready to break the water but you were facing up so we decided to wait and help you turn around. The peanut did the trick again! 3am and they broke my water! You were so wiggly during labor they couldn't keep a good track on your heart rate. You also were a bit high so they wanted to wait until you dropped down farther. By 5am it was time to push.

Pushing was hard but I had great help and encouragement. Dad watched the whole time and helped hold my leg. Grandma Jones and Aunt Jessica were there and supported us as well. You still kept hiding so they had a hard time watching your heart rate and they ended up doing an internal monitor. Your heart rate kept dropping every time I pushed so they put me on oxygen and I had to turn to my right side after each push. The epidural worked very well, I couldn't even tell when to push. But an hour and a half later you arrived!

6:23am on May 4, 2016 I became a mother. You joined our family in all your glory. You were beautiful!!! Perfect in every way! I couldn't believe you were ours! You had a pretty good cone head and some swelling but you looked so much like both of us combined. Dads nose. Moms chin. Perfect!

Luke 1:14 And thou shalt have joy and gladness; and many shall rejoice at his birth.

There have been lots of visitors, well wishes, and pictures. We all love you so much! Thank you for coming into our lives and blessing us. Let this new adventure begin and see where we end up!
